Working with Cara has been one of the best ever decisions I’ve made for my health, My fitness, and my confidence!
I started out with some specific goals I wanted to reach in my “three big” lifts: squats, deadlifts, and benchpress. In our conversation I told her I also had a body fat percent goal that I had spent years trying to reach. Cara started out by testing my flexibility, strength and weight/measurements/body fat.
From there she knew what exercises would help me improve and ultimately reach my goals. She has watched, assessed, adjusted my workouts, motivated and encouraged me every single week.
I just want to add that I am a personal trainer. I know a lot about weightlifting and resistance training and also helping people lose body fat. I only say that because there are very few people on the planet that I would hand over the reins for my training. I know that Cara is an amazing trainer, but I have been blown away by her insight into what will help me make the progress I’ve been trying to achieve for so long. I feel like I’m nailing it every week!!
I’m stronger. I’m more flexible. I’ve made dramatic progress in my form. I’m increasing my weight on the big lifts. And I lost about 15 lbs and 3% body fat (I hit that goal) since I started!
If you are thinking about training with Cara, or any of any of the coaches or joining any the workout programs at Fundamental HQ I say GO FOR IT!! You won’t regret it! They will help you set and reach your fitness goals.
After giving birth to my second child it wasn’t too long after that I realized that my “bounce back“ was taking a lot longer than it had with my first. I had all these different feelings and views toward my body and every aspect of my life than I did with my first baby and I honestly felt like I was losing myself and disappearing. I had never experienced any mental health issues even though I’d always had issues with my body and the way I viewed it. After opening up to my husband about my struggles he reached out to Cara at Fundamental HQ and asked her about personal training and if it could help me not only physically but also mentally. Cara is such a phenomenal coach and has helped me in so many ways! She helped me set goals, cheered me on on rough days and worked with me to achieve them. She showed me that I can do hard things and that my body is a lot stronger than I thought it was. I learned that even though my body might not be the “standard” that I was taught growing up that everyone’s “standard” was different and that it accomplished creating two amazing little people and I’m so grateful for it! It felt so good just to be moving again and doing something for myself who would’ve thought that just getting out and being active could help me mentally. Not once did I ever feel judged or like I didn’t belong there. Cara made me feel 100% comfortable. I now have the confidence to be in a class setting and feel like I know what I’m doing and what form I should be having so that I don’t injure myself. I would 100/10 recommend any coach at Fundamental HQ they truly care about each of their clients and want to help them achieve their goals however big or small they may be! I’m grateful to Cara for giving me a part of my life back that I thought I’d lost. I’m excited to continue my journey towards becoming a healthier person and loving every part of myself along the way. Thank you Fundamental HQ!
Thank you all for everything because this gym has been amazing. I used to have so much gym anxiety to the point I would refuse to go to the gym and would choose some form of outdoor cardio regardless of weather conditions over attending a class. The welcoming environment and education you all provided was unbelievably beneficial for me. I would argue mentally the growth I saw was significantly more than physically! I used to only ever go to gyms if someone could convince me enough to join them (shout out Katie for bringing me to you all).
So, thank you from the bottom of my heart and keep doing what you all are doing!
I have worked out regularly with Cara for several years now. I’ve always known she was amazing, but this has become even more clear to me during my current pregnancy (only three weeks left!). Her training has been goal oriented with health and safety always at the forefront. It’s never easy to see your body change and feel like your abilities are slipping away uncontrollably, but Cara keeps the long view and really helped me do the same. Her knowledge of breathing, proper lifting technique, and correct/allowable core muscle use has been invaluable during my pregnancy workout routines. Of course she is always upbeat, optimistic and prepare with a variety of diverse workouts to keep things interesting. I truly love working out with Cara.
Through working out at FHQ, I have come to realize that getting older doesn’t mean that I have to feel older. I just turned 50 and I feel stronger and more fit than I have in a very long time. I can do more, I have more energy, and I just feel great! FHQ not only helped me on the outside, but on the inside as well. Confidence has definitely gone way up. I guess that’s why I’ve really encouraged my children to join. I want them to experience what I have at FHQ
And since 2020 likes to make things worse, shortly after coming to Utah I found out that the dry climate gave me bad asthma, and I couldn’t go for long runs like I did in Hawaii. That almost did it for me–like I couldn’t stop thinking, “Are you kidding me?! After everything I’ve been through now I can’t even breathe the way I used to??”
I think my mom (who’s a die-hard F.H.Q. fan) could tell I was struggling and suggested I try out the Olympic weightlifting class F.H.Q. was offering at the time. I had never picked up a barbell before that, but didn’t think my year could get any worse, so I paid for the class on credit with the hopes that I’d have a job by the time the statement rolled around.
The class was AMAZING!! Not only did I discover that I love powerlifting, but I learned how to do things I didn’t think I’d ever be able to do. I learned that I’m stronger than I think I am and I can do hard things–both in and out of the gym.
Even after the oly class ended and I started going to regular sessions everyone has been so supportive. Nobody is judgemental when I can’t do something because of my asthma, and I love how the coaches help me modify the workouts so that I can still get a good sweat in without reaching for my inhaler.
So yes: infomercial-y as it sounds, I frickin’ love F.H.Q.!! Everything from the people, to the programming, to that overall good feeling that I can come as I am and still be accepted. It’s okay that I can’t do what everyone else can and it’s okay that I’m still trying to figure the asthma thing out. At F.H.Q. they’re meeting me where I’m at and helping me get to where I want to be, and I’m so grateful for that.
Since joining the gym I have learned that I am able to do things that I once thought were too hard. I didnt know correct form for a lot of movements but since I started coming in and getting awesome coaching I have improved a lot. Everyone at the gym has been so supportive in helping me succeed in a healthy and safe way.
I have never made so much progress in any previous programs, and I am so happy to be a part of this community! I look forward to coming in and improving each and every day.
Fundamental HQ is singlehandedly the best thing I have ever done for both my physical and mental health. I have never been part of a community that loves, accepts, teaches and strengthens its members like Fundamental HQ. The coaching and attention you receive as a member is elite and second to none. The best part of my day is walking through the gym doors.
Cara, Ray, Musto and Whitney are world class. Together, with the community they have created, they have saved my mindset, my self-esteem, my belief in myself, and my love of exercise and treating myself with respect. I am a better person because of Fundamental HQ and look forward to calling this gym home for years to come!
I have nothing but great things to say about Cara and the work she does as a personal trainer! After having my daughter, I decided to complete a 6-week postpartum program with her. During the 6 weeks, she paid close attention to what my body needed/could do and took the time to make the necessary adjustments to my training. Since completing the program, Cara has helped me gain my strength back and has also helped significantly decrease my lower back pain. Cara is an amazing trainer and I am excited to continue my fitness journey with her!
